What is a 4moms Mamaroo swing

In a nutshell, this is a high tech baby swing that is designed to gently rock your baby to sleep. For modern times, this is nothing short of in fashion, as this cool looking swinger is probably one of the most wanted swingers on the planet.

Where you will definitely need to be careful is when looking amongst the different products that 4moms have to offer. What do I mean? Well, you may find that you bump into a swinger called the Rockaroo.

So what’s the difference?

Essentially, one product is designed to be an oldskool tye rocker which doesn’t do anything spectacular as such. This would be the one that you find is called the Rockaroo. Now, on the other hand, you have the mamaroo, which is the one we are talking about in this post. This does a little more with movement and is usually referred to as a modern-day baby bouncer.

Heres a video to explain this a bit better:

As you can see from the video there is also a slight difference in the way that each of these bouncers look. But when you don’t know the difference, it can be very easy to make the mistake of buying the incorrect item.

So tip number 1 will be definitely to make sure you understand the difference between the 2. And then to make sure that the product you are looking to purchase is the correct one that you intend to buy.

Now that we got that clear. Its time to talk about why you would even want a 200 dollar/pound swinger. As I know that for a price like this you may be expecting something spectacular. Let’s dig in…

Why would you need this product?

The main reason you may be considering buying this will be probably so you can free up some more time around the house. Or to give yourself a break whilst the baby is asleep or relaxed, which in turn should allow you to do more whilst little man/woman is calm.

Well, this was my reason too and from actually purchasing this product I can say that it will depend on your child for whether things will work out like this.

What do I mean by this exactly?

Well if you have a child like mine, then you will quickly come to realize that even with this expensive swinger you will still be required to pick him up every other minute.

Some babies are fine with just sitting inside the swinger a relaxing, whilst others may turn out to be the complete opposite.

I had a friend that came around to visit us for a weekend and his baby seemed to love the swinger. It was literally like clockwork the way that she just synced up with the swinger and sat there relaxing. Whereas with my own baby it was quite the opposite.

But to stick to the topic of why you may need this swinger. Then it is purely for the fact that you may want to free up some space to do things whilst your baby sits in the swinger. And the only way to find out if this will be a solution to that problem is to purchase the swinger and test it out with your baby. I’m sure you already know that every baby is different.

What ages are best suited for this product?

So the recommended ages for this product are from birth to around 6 months old. And that’s manufacturers criteria.

But when testing this myself, I have found that my baby is already too big for this at just 4 months old. Now bearing in my, he is not the smallest of babies (he’s very tall for 4 months old).

But I found that his head has started to breach the top of where the pillow kind of site and his legs are quite a little over the edge of the bottom. Although that is pretty much how the bottom is supposed to sit from the start.

But instead of taking age into perspective, I think a better unit of measurement would be weight. As the last thing you want is for the swinger to collapse or your baby to fall from it, due to their weight being over the limit.

The recommended weight for a mamaroo swing is from birth to 25lbs (pounds). That means you have a pretty good run from when your baby is born up until you will consider selling this on.

So now you know all about the weight and size your baby can be to use this. Let us get into the operational side of this and how it all works exactly.

How does this product work?

For this model, you will find that there are 5 different option for when it comes to the swing. Which I think is the same amount that was included in the older model from 2015 too. So the 5 options that you get are as following:

  • Car ride
  • Kangaroo
  • Tree swing
  • Rock ‘a’ bye
  • Wave

To give you an idea of how they move when in operation. I have included a quick snapshot from the mamaroo official site below.

When you are using any of these settings, you also have the option to add sound too. This could be from your mobile device, as you can hook that up to it which I thought was pretty cool.

Along with options of the preset sounds that are built in which include:

  • Rain
  • Fan
  • Ocean
  • Heart

Each of them is pretty good too. My son seemed to really like the car ride with the Fan setting the most. Which really doesn’t surprise me, a he literally always falls asleep on car rides too. And the fan sound is the closest thing to the white noise. So I think it sounds just as soothing to him whilst he is swinging.

Whilst I have given you a brief idea of the features that this swinger has. I think it’s still important to clearly explain what you get. So below, I have included a few bullets with the key features of this product.

Key features of the 4moms Mamaroo swinger

  • Bluetooth control from phone (never used)
  • MP3 playback
  • Adjustable seat recline
  • Aux lead port
  • Interactive toy balls (3 reversible ones)

You can also get an insert that we used to prop up small babies in the swinger until they are big enough to fit in without it. You can check that out on Amazon here. But it will cost you an extra $20 or so to add that in on your purchase.

And that’s really about it. But what more would you really want a swinger to do, as I think this thing is already years ahead of us when it comes to technology. It’s amazing what older people have to say when they see it. As my partner’s grandparent can sit there and watch it for hours upon end in absolute amazement.

And to think that this connects to your phone too is just quite amazing to see. Anyways, let’s get into what materials are used on this and a few of the pros and cons to this product.

Materials and design of the 4moms Mamaroo swinger

All of the materials used for the fabric on this swinger is nylon. Now I am not absolutely sure that this is the case for all of the models. But for the most part that is the material I have on my own and what I have seen on many others from the same manufacturer.

The actual frame appears to made out of aluminum and the rest of the product including the base is made out of hard plastic. Using these materials has made the swinger safe and secure when it sits on the ground as it literally doesn’t budge once you put it in place. And it’s also very easy to move because of the lightweight materials that have been used on it.

The 4moms Mamaroo is a very ideal lightweight product for any household. Which makes it ideal to move around the house, although you may experience some difficulty moving it up and down stairs due to the shape.

Talking about mobility, this is not the type of product that you could throw into the back of the car with ease. So bear in mind that once this reaches your home, then that is probably where it will stay until the point that you decide to stop using it. To sum everything up, I have bullet pointed a few pros and cons below:

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • Quiet ( I heard others are loud)
  • Machine washable covers
  • Straight in the wall plug (no batteries)
  • Lightweight (easy to pick up and move)
  • Modern design (stylish)
  • 5 different motion settings for swing
  • 4 different sound modes (see them all here)

Cons
  • Not that adjustable (only up and down adjustment)
  • Got to keep it plugged into the wall
  • Can only use up to 6 months old or 25 pounds

As you can see, there is a lot of features and settings that you get with this swinger. Certainly, a lot more than you would get from a $30 bouncer. But of course, expected from how much you are paying for this item.

How long does this last?

As stated earlier in the post and from the manufacturer’s site, this swinger can last anywhere between your babies birth to 6 months of age. Now the exact terminology that is used on the official website is

“Birth until a child reaches 25lbs or can sit up unassisted, whichever comes first”

So if you find that you have a little super trooper on your hands and he or she decides to sit up way early in their career. Then you could be out of pocket pretty fast. But again, this is a product that is very “in” right now, so you’ll have no problems with selling it on eBay or Facebook marketplace, etc.

Do I recommend that you buy this product?

If you are looking for a product that can help rock your baby to sleep because they are not liking a bouncer, then YES this is for you. If you have not yet tested out a swinger and you are buying this because you think it costs a lot and will just work, then NO I would recommend you try a swinger first.

And if you try a swinger then I recommend you check out the Fisher-Price My Little Snugapuppy Deluxe Bouncer as that’s probably the best bouncer/swinger I would recommend as a cheaper alternative.

Conclusion

From reading this 4Moms Mamaroo review, you should easily be able to understand what a Mamaroo rocker is, how it differs from other models, and whether its a good option for you and your baby. Whilst this product has some of the most amazing features of our time.

It also still has a huge room for improvement. So if you are looking to buy this item then I recommend you check out some more details for it over on Amazon. And I wish you the best of luck with your new addition to the family. Be sure to leave a comment if you have any questions too.
